The Buddha Collection 6 pc Bon Bon (Vegan)

This collection of vegan confections was created in honor of our son, who we affectionately called Buddha for his first year of life. He had so many food sensitivities in his early years: soy, sesame, and dairy, to name a few. Hence, the ingredients in these chocolates are all free of soy, gluten, nuts, and dairy (but please note they are created in a facility that handles all of the above). The creative flavor pairings in this assortment are beloved by vegans and omnivores alike. Enjoy in good health!

 

The Buddha Collection includes:

Buddha – our original vegan truffle made with bittersweet chocolate and coconut cream.

Mint Meltaway – dark chocolate and coconut oil bonbon infused with organic peppermint oil and enrobed in dark chocolate. 

Strawberry Balsamic – purée of local strawberries and organic balsamic vinegar in a dark chocolate and coconut cream ganache. Sprinkled with cacao nibs.

Grapefruit + Fennel + Olive Oil– fennel-infused Greek olive oil and essential oil of grapefruit in dark chocolate, topped with candied grapefruit. 

 

Almond Praline – a layer of creamy, housemade almond paste, topped with crunchy almond praline and enrobed in dark chocolate.

Chocolate Caramel – a rich, creamy chocolate caramel made with coconut milk, in a dark chocolate shell. 

 

 

All of our caramels and truffles are completely free of corn syrup.

Dan and Jael co-owners French Broad ChocolateOur Story: The Beginning – Costa Rica
When Dan and Jael met in 2003, the course of each of their lives began to orient towards cacao and chocolate. After a trip to the cacao-rich jungles of Costa Rica, Jael and Dan made the decision to move there, and settle in a small village called Puerto Viejo de Limon on the southern Caribbean coast. They each dropped out of graduate school (Jael was studying business; Dan, law), packed their lives into a 40-foot, vegetable oil-powered school bus turned cozy mobile home, and drove to Costa Rica. They opened a café and dessert shop, called Bread & Chocolate, where their business values began to form, and sourcing ingredients direct from farmers became a part of their identity. After two years in Costa Rica, Dan and Jael were ready to begin their next chapter. They sold Bread & Chocolate to one of their cooks (it still operates today, 14 years later!), hopped back on the bus – this time with their Costa Rica-born son - and headed north to the United States, where they settled in Asheville, NC and founded French Broad Chocolate.
